Can the interviewer see TheCloser when I share my screen?
No. Every TheCloser window, including its menus and popovers, is excluded from screen capture by macOS and Windows. Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and screen recorders capture your screen without it. Its menu-bar or tray icon only shows when you're not on a call.
Is it really free?
Yes. TheCloser is open source under the MIT license, with no account. You add your own keys and pay OpenRouter and ElevenLabs directly for what you use. Or subscribe to Pro ($19/month) or Pro Max ($39/month) from the app: the models and transcription are included, with no keys to set up.
Which AI models does it work with, and which keys do I need?
Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok and Kimi, all through one OpenRouter key. Transcription uses an ElevenLabs key, or an xAI key if you pick Grok's transcription. Keys are stored only on your computer.
Does my data go through your servers?
No. With your own keys, nothing goes through TheCloser: your keys stay on your computer, and your transcript goes straight from it to OpenRouter and your transcription provider. With Pro, answers pass through TheCloser's server on their way to the AI, and nothing is kept. Sessions are saved only on your computer.
Does it work with Zoom, Google Meet and Teams?
Yes, and with any other call app. TheCloser listens to your microphone or your computer's audio instead of plugging into the call, so it works the same everywhere.
What computer do I need?
A Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) on macOS 14 Sonoma or later, or a PC with Windows 10 or 11. The Mac download doesn't run on Intel Macs.
macOS says TheCloser can't be opened. What do I do?
TheCloser isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. Open System Settings, go to Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. You only need to do this once. Then allow Microphone, Speech Recognition and Screen Recording when asked.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC". What do I do?
TheCloser isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen warns on the first launch. Click More info, then Run anyway. There's nothing to install: TheCloser.exe runs as it is.
